about

The basis for Hobbygram was originally rooted in a pact made between my wife and I several years ago.  It was a year where we had completed our first "spring cleaning" together and we were coming upon yet another gift-giving holiday.  It was there that we decided that we were going to forgo gift-giving and replace it with experiences.  That could be a fancy dinner, tickets to live music or a comedy show, and or an excursion or activity next time we are on vacation.

We were going to prioritize experiences over things.  Therefore, it was only natural to translate the same idea to our kids' birthdays after we grew tired of clearing out yet again the excesses of unplayed toys season after season.  To be clear, we are not "anti-toy" and will still buy our kids toys on special occasions that meet our criteria(educational, enjoyable, enduring).  However, we like being in a position to curate the when, where, and what ourselves.  Overall we have noticed that sending our kids to a day camp, music lessons, arts & crafts sessions, or sporting activity was much more appreciated and enriching to them than playing with toys.  At the least, they gained an experience or memory and at best they also built a skill or hobby.  Hence, the birth of the idea for Hobbygram:  A new option in gifting.

If you are hosting parent, we hope this brings you a choice that wasn't available to you and your child before that is more in line with your child's passions.  If you are a gift giver, in addition to the fulfillment of giving a child an experience or memory, we hope this also makes it more convenient for you.

And finally, its important to note the environmental consequences as the toy industry is one of the biggest sources of plastic waste on a per-revenue basis.  This only further reinforces our belief in Hobbygram becoming a "gift that keeps on giving."
